The Crew Team operation depends a lot on parent volunteers.  If you would like to help with the website, with fundraising, with maintaining equipment, etc. please let us know.  Email INFO@DJOCREW.ORG  and let us know if you are interested in helping a specific committee.  Speaking on behalf of the Communications group, we would welcome volunteers interested in transforming the DJO Crew web page and exploring other communications ideas (e.g., a biweekly newsletter, etc.).

Calling all photographers:  please contribute your photos from DJO Crew events!  Last year we established a Picasa web site dedicated to DJO Crew and it is located at http://picasaweb.google.com/djocrew.  The Picasa web site is a repository of photo albums for the Crew team.  It is intended to allow all DJO Crew Team members to add their photos and download any pictures they want.  We have pictures from regattas, practices, social events, etc. and want a lot more.  If you are taking pictures at Crew events, help us record the year in pictures.  I embed those slide shows into the djocrew.org website under the Pictures button.  If you run into any problems, let me know.  We have made it a practice not to tag or name students in the photographs.

From Coach Delsordo:

Parents and rowers:  Excellent job to rowers, parents and coaches. The results at the Head of the Occoquan say it all:

Men's Novice 8 - 14th out of 18
Women's Varsity 8 - 4th out of 24 (medal)
Men's Varsity 4 - 3rd out of 21 (medal)
Women's Varsity 4 - 14th out of 20
Women's Novice 8 - 8th out of 17
Men's Varsity 8 - 12 out of 21
and......................................
OLD MAN BOAT - 5th out of 7 (beating two boats!!!)

Our top two varsity boats (v8 women, v4 men) had fantastic rows - medaling for the first time at the Head of the Occoquan. I am particularly proud of the women's V8 - their confidence in themselves has grown so much since the Head of the Charles. They enter a competition knowing they will row hard and place. The momentum they have picked up this fall is awesome. I am also very happy with the men's v4 performance. They finished the year with a 1st place finish at Head of Potomac and a 3rd place finish at HOTO.  Our novice program picked up a lot of speed in just a week of practicing. Talking with Coach Paul and Coach Carl, they are convinced they have a championship squad of novice - that possibility is very exciting!

We now enter WINTER TRAINING.

In the coming days/weeks I will be sending out a schedule for varsity and novice.  All practices from now until February 20th will be at DJO high school. The coaching staff will have a set schedule by our fall meeting.  During winter training we will be competing in a number of local erg competitions (e.g., Yorktown Relays, Mid-Atlantic Relays). This year we also plan to send a few of our select rowers to the World Indoor Rowing Championships (CRASH-B) in Boston, MA.  So rowers....jump into the winter training season with the vigor and determination needed to lower your erg scores.  I gaurantee you the hard work during the winter will pay huge dividends during the sprint sprint season.  I am looking forward to all of our boats showing up as medalists in our spring regattas.

Coach Alex

P.S. It's that time of the year again.  To any parent/rower that currently has a Bishop O'Connell Crew Team Erg in their possession, we would like the erg returned to school on Monday November 14th. The erg can either be returned in the morning before school between 7-7:30 am or after school at 3-4pm. We will be storing the ergs in the Underwood Lobby (side of school) near the Math hallway.

In two weeks DJO Crew will be purchasing for the team used/1-year-old Model D ergs from Drexel University at a discounted price. The estimated price per erg will be $750. The same model runs between $900 - $1000 if you purchase through Concept2. If you want to buy an erg for yourself, please contact me immediately. Included in the estimated price tag of $750 is free pick up and delivery by the Bishop O'Connell Crew Team.

I would like to have the order placed no later than this Friday - so please contact me by Friday if you are interested in owning a Concept2 erg.  You can go to the Concept2 website for more information: http://www.concept2.com/us/indoorrowers/d_home.asp. Again, Monday November 14th please return all ergs to Bishop O'Connell and contact me by Friday if you want to purchase an erg for your home.
