The Crew Team operation depends a lot on parent volunteers. If you would like to help with the website, with fundraising, with maintaining equipment, etc. please let us know. Email INFO@DJOCREW.ORG and let us know if you are interested in helping a specific committee. Speaking on behalf of the Communications group, we would welcome volunteers interested in transforming the DJO Crew web page and exploring other communications ideas (e.g., a biweekly newsletter, etc.).

Calling all photographers: please contribute your photos from DJO Crew events! Last year we established a Picasa web site dedicated to DJO Crew and it is located at http://picasaweb.google.com/djocrew. The Picasa web site is a repository of photo albums for the Crew team. It is intended to allow all DJO Crew Team members to add their photos and download any pictures they want. We have pictures from regattas, practices, social events, etc. and want a lot more. If you are taking pictures at Crew events, help us record the year in pictures. I embed those slide shows into the djocrew.org website under the Pictures button. If you run into any problems, let me know. We have made it a practice not to tag or name students in the photographs. Jeff Heimerman
This weekend is our last and final regular season race - The Al Urquia - at the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, VA. The regatta is held at Sandy Run Regional Park. Not pets are allowed in the park, so do not bring one. Parking near the regatta fills up early. It will cost you $10 to park. Wear comfortable shoes that you will not mind getting dirty. To see the races, anticipate 1/4-1/3 mile hike on trails through the woods to the grandstand.
There are 27 competing schools and more than 200 entries. The event officially starts at 9am but the coaches/coxswains meeting will begin at 7am.
For the first time this year, there will be a Heat/Final progression for each category. So as long as a boat advances, they will be competing twice in a day. We do not have any athlete double racing.
As we approach this part of the season, we need to start asking ourselves how we can make the team/boat faster. Your coaching staff and parents have done a fantastic job all season so let's show the Virginia Schools what we are made of.
Something that we must take away from this weekend is the knowledge of our local talent - how fast and competitive we are with the top schools in the VASRA League. We have had the incredible opportunity to race 3 or 4 different leagues this year - Philadelphia, South Jersey, WMIRA and VASRA. With that knowledge, we are able to adjust our style of rowing, adjust our mentality and figure out where we place in all of this. The good news: WE ARE FAST.
ALL rowers must get there by 7:45am to rig and prepare for their race. If your coach wants you there sooner, then listen to him/her. It will be a long day but we will unload the trailer Saturday after the race.
Let's go after it DJO.
