Crew & Learn to Row Registration Information:
The O'Connell Crew Team typically begins "winter training" or conditioning, in late November, as preparation for for the Spring Crew Season. The Spring Crew Season typically hits the water for practice in late February or early March depending on the conditions of the water. To participate in winter training the forms below must be signed and returned. To participate on the water the manditory Point Program must be met. The Learn to Row program is an introduction to rowing covering Rowing, Boat Handling and Land Training. The program is run by Thompson's Boat House with sessions on Saturdays and/or Sundays. The program typically begins in late September and ends in early November with adjustments made for DC running marathons/races. Swim Test Information
All participants of the Learn to Row program and Novices rowers going out for the spring crew season must pass a mandatory Swim Certification Test. There is no charge for the test. Program participants will need to bring the test form to be signed. A signed swim test form is manditory before a student can participate on the water. Students who are unable to take the swim test are responsible for getting the form signed at a pool of their choice. Requirements for form signature include:
- swimming 100m without stopping (at any pace, with any stroke)
- treading water in clothing (no shoes) for 5 minutes.
