Points System: As a privately funded varsity sport, the Bishop O'Connell Crew Team depends on its rowing families for financial and "sweat" support. The Crew Boosters will use a point program to ensure that all rowing families provide a basic level of support and to give credit to those families that do extra. We endeavor to make the program simple and fair.
The point earning period for each season runs from the start of June to the end of February. Points earned after February will be applied to the following Spring Rowing Season.
Points are awarded for volunteer hours performed by the rower/cox or their parents/guardians. Event coordinators will report points to the Fundraising Coordinator to be tallied and reported. It is expected that the point tally will be posted on the web site. The Crew Boosters Club will award points for Booster-sponsored and approved events after the points are earned or "Awarded". Please note that, where applicable, points are only awarded for a full task or shift. Event coordinators may earn points for setting up the event and additional points for participating in the event. For example, the Bake Sale Coordinator earns points for setting up a bake sale and additional points for hours spent volunteering at the sale. Only awarded points can be shifted and only then between siblings.
The Dues and Points requirements for the coming season remain the same as for last season. All rowers are required to pay $500 in team dues. In addition to the dues, returning rowers must earn points 60 points and new rowers must earn 30 points in fundraising or team supported activities. Each point is worth $10. All or a portion of the total point obligation may be paid in cash. For example, a returning rower who has earned 40 points ($400) may satisfy the balance by a cash payment of $200. Points and dues obligations must be satisfied prior to the start of on-water practice in the spring. Payment coupons will be distributed in the Fall for those who wish to make partial payments on a monthly basis.
Point Raisers: are events that can be planned and run by individual or group of rower families. All of the money raised during these events converts directly into points that are credited to a rower's account on a $10 to 1 point basis.
Car washes, gift-wrapping, and lawn mowing/snow shoveling are possible point raiser ideas. To set one up, do the following:
1. Fill out a Point Raiser Proposal form and submit it to the Fundraising Chair for Crew Board review. You must be pre-approved by the DJO Crew Booster Board since we are soliciting funds in the name of Bishop O'Connell High School.
2. Once your point raising activity is approved, you can operate on behalf of the Bishop O'Connell Crew Boosters.
3. Work with the Fundraising Chair to develop a point distribution plan and volunteer solicitation message for the web-site and/or Boosters e-mail.
4. After the point raising event, make out a check to DJO Crew Boosters for the full amount of the profit minus documented costs. Mail the check to the DJO Crew Booster Fundraising Chair with a copy of your point distribution plan so points can be properly distributed to all participants.
